Types of needle roller bearings

There are many different types of needle roller bearings, each of which have their own strengths and are more suited to specific applications. Below is a list of some of the more common types along with a brief description. Further information on each type can be found by following the links below.

• Needle roller and cage assemblies
  These are ready to mount and have a high load capacity. They are compact in design by utilising the shaft and housing as the inner and outer raceways of the bearing.
• Drawn cup needle roller bearings
  Drawn cup needle roller bearings are typically used where the housing cannot be used as a bearing raceway but the compact design elements of a needle roller bearing assembly are still required.
• Needle roller bearings with machined rings
  These have more of a traditional bearing feel about them with machined rings on either the inner, outer or both raceways. They are suitable for carrying high loads and through the use of narrow hardened machined bearing rings they still maintain a compact design.
• Alignment needle roller bearings
  These needle roller bearings can accommodate up to 3° of static misalignment and come with an outer ring with the rolling elements on the inner sitting directly onto the shaft. 
  
• Combined needle roller bearings
  These are both a thrust bearing and a needle roller bearing combined into one compact unit. They are suitable for high radial and axial loads.
• Needle roller bearing components
  Loose rollers available with flat, spherical or pointed ends as well as other component items such as needle roller bearing inner rings. These types of bearing components are often used in planetary gear applications
• Needle roller thrust bearings
  These are designed to manage heavy axial loads. They are narrow in design and incorporate many needle rollers which increases the load carrying capability of the bearing.
• Support roller bearings
  These bearings can be manufactured with needle rollers inside or cylindrical rollers. They are designed to run on tracks and are manufactured ready to mount for ease of installation
• Cam follower bearings
  Similar to support rollers but with an integrated threaded shaft for mounting, these bearings can be supplied with needle or cylindrical rollers.
