Stainless steel ball bearings are a variation of deep groove ball bearings that are made from stainless steel and are suitable for use in corrosive environments or applications where high levels of cleanliness are required. Because of the material type, stainless steel bearings don't have the same load carrying capacities of the same bearings produced in standard bearing steel so this needs to be factored into the bearing selection process.
They are available either as open types where the balls are exposed, sealed types where the bearings are greased for life and then seals are inserted to prevent contaminants getting in and the grease getting out and as shielded bearings where the grease is retained and some sealing protection is offered.
